Hilton Hotels were founded by Conrad Hilton in 1919. Hilton Hotels became the first international hotel chain when it opened the doors of its Caribe Hilton hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The name brand Hilton is actually the flagship of Hilton Hotels Corporation which is based in Beverly Hills, California. Today, Hilton Hotel Corporation remains one of the world’s largest hotel chains. Since its founding, Hilton Hotels has expanded to become the United States’ first coast to coast chain of hotels by focusing on business travel as well as operating many leisure oriented and resort hotels too. The Plaza Hotel in El Paso, Texas was the first high rise Hilton hotel. The Plaza was constructed in 1930 by Conrad Hilton. The Amsterdam Hilton, Room 902 is where Yoko Ono and John Lennon held their first Bed-In for Peace for six days in 1969.
